Strengthening society preparedness as a strategy for disaster risk reduction in Indonesia

Abstract Natural disasters in Indonesia place a heavy and extraordinary burden on the affected people. Disaster victims are often unable to cope with stress tension of disaster, so they turn government for help. Disasters also create difficult problems anticipate deal with. As result, effectiveness efforts disaster management varies. In many cases, government’s response is slow, ineffective, chaotic, misguided. There “gap” between what prepared do an emergency situation emerges as expectations victims. This paper aims answer problem how things related community preparedness can be formulated policies. We describe this assertion after conducting field research six selected regencies 2021. mixed methods descriptive, data collected through survey respondents interviews informants using semi-structured questionnaires. conclude that there no other way except society must able adapt capable managing risk reduction. adaptability manifested forms society’s disasters.
